This annual event is one of Bangkok’s best for the whole family with games for all ages, great music and vendors of all kinds, not to mention a rockclimbing wall, incredible raffle prizes, food of all kinds, and a coloring competition sponsored by Nancy Chandler Graphics. Funds raised go to charities nationwide. This year, 230 booths from 42 countries are being set up. Warning: Thais descend en masse for certain items so be prepared for a little jostling. Among items we know will be on sale are popular American and Australian snacks (think Tim Tams), Canadian maple syrub, Persian carpets, South African ostrich eggs and beaded net glass covers, Dutch cheese and chocolate, and Italian pasta, parma ham and more. FM One Gift Fair

Chic and trendy crafts, gifts, decor and more will be on sale at this annual festival sponsored by FM 103.5 for ‘hip’ young Thais to be held on the grounds of what was Magic Land off Paholyothin Road not far from Chatuchak Market (see Go Karts just below Tesco on the map in I2). To get there, take the BTS to Mo Chit or the MRT to Phahon Yothin station and then tell a taxi driver to take you to ‘Dan Neramit’, the Thai name of the one-time amusement park that was here years ago. The Nimmanhaemin Art & Design Promenade (NAP 2011) is, in our opinion, Chiang Mai's top arts and crafts fair. We visited two years ago and cannot recommend it highly enough for serious shoppers and browsers alike. Held on Nimmanhaemin Soi 1 (B2) and spreading out from there, alongside vendors will be all sorts of cultural performances and entertainment. Not to mention lots of food and drink.

This annual event brings the Thai temple fair atmosphere to the city’s outskirts, with games, food, entertainment and shopping on offer every evening from 6-10pm in a traditional market style behind the Provincial Hall off Hwy 107 (H1-I1). Expect to see very little in the way of tacky tourist souvenirs, this fair is for the locals! Note also that some displays may not be for the squeamish, every good fair having its special ‘medical board’...

Used books, magazines, jigsaw puzzles and more will be on sale at bargain basement prices (books often start as low as B 50) this weekend as the historic Neilson Hays Library on Surawong (C3) cleans out its extra stock. Expect the real bargain hunters to descend on the stacks from opening and again throughout the day as the library restocks the tables regularly during the day. Browsers are also welcome of course and this is a wonderful opportunity to see this heritage building and enjoy lunch in its garden cafe. Gates open at 9.30am and close at 4pm.

Expect big bargains and big crowds at this event bringing together tour operators, airlines, resorts and anyone and everyone in travel. Tagged ‘Oh! Summer”, discounts are being touted at 10-50% but make sure to check the small print on dates and refunds. For every B 1,000 spent, you should also be offered entry into a lucky draw.
